The Association of Indian Universities (AIU) and Acumen, part of the Sannam S4 Group, announce the formalisation of a pivotal strategic partnership through a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) designed to significantly accelerate the internationalisation of Indian higher education sector, provide exciting new international study options for Indian students and to create meaningful graduate career outcomes in Japan.
This collaboration, deeply aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) and the emerging education and research collaboration workstream within the Quad, aims to create transformative opportunities for joint research, academic and student mobility, and the development of innovative educational programs. Leveraging AIU’s leadership role in India’s higher education sector with its expansive network of Indian universities alongside Acumen’s global expertise of implementation of international higher education projects, this partnership will raise the profile of the India -Japan strategic partnership and deliver outcomes in university transnational education (TNE), joint research, graduate employment and corporate engagement opportunities between the two Quad member nations.
Key initiatives include building awareness between both nations higher education sectors to foster and strengthen India-Japan academic collaboration, establishing Japanese language and culture centers across India to prepare Indian students for a study and career experience in Japan and establishing strategic Indo-Japanese joint research centers in the fields of Engineering & Robotics, Materials Science & Nanotechnology, Life Sciences, Biomedical Research and Clean Energy & Environmental Science including hydrogen energy, battery technology, green manufacturing and disaster resilience, areas where Japan excels globally.
These initiatives will be delivered through the co-hosting of curated high-impact nationwide events, local and digital promotion of Japan as a prime destination for Indian students and promoting a study in India experience to Japanese students, establishing streamlined frameworks for credit transfer, qualification recognition, and the development of local centers and branch campuses in Japan and India , fostering a more integrated and accessible educational landscape.

Acumen and AIU have already immersed themselves in Japan to deliver local programs with support of the Embassy of India in Tokyo ahead of the formal launch of the partnership.

This was in the context of growing interest from Indian students in pursuing studies in Japan.
